There are many steps in the process as FALP prepares for Pastor Joel’s retirement this summer. A first step was taken on March 28 when Pastor Nicki, David Hingst (Transformational Ministry leader), and Sally Oberg (FALP chair), met with Nebraska Synod ELCA Bishop Brian Mass, Rev. Rebecca Sheridan, and Rev. Megan Morrow. Discussion included some of the successes and challenges of our young parish and what the future of our shared ministry might look like. How can we better fulfill our purpose of serving our neighbors through Christ?
The call process is not a quick one. There will be many opportunities for FALP members to participate in the coming months during this process of self-study, discernment, and an eventual call. Two meetings with the Synod are planned for May: one for FALP council training on the call process that will be used and one for an exit interview which will be held with the FALP council and the Redeemer council (recognizing that prior to serving FALP, Pastor Joel served many years at Redeemer).
Pastor Joel will continue in his role on our ministerial staff until the end of June. He has vacation time that will be used in July. We will have pulpit supply pastors until a transitional minister is named for FALP who will serve as one of our clergy as we go through the call process and are ready to extend a call.
Please continue to keep FALP in your prayers.
